Taking Care of Yourself Series ...
Pay attention to your emotions. I didn't say, "let them rule you," just pay attention to them. They are a valid part of who you are and they need to be taken into consideration. There are times when you need to put your emotions on the shelf for a moment to take care of life (stuffing them long term just means that they will pop out later or they will eat your insides), but do take them down and examine them, allow them to breathe, allow them to show you what is good in your life and what is stressful (where you might want to make changes).
If you find yourself frustrated with the same kind of situation over and over again, sit down and think through what might change the situation and remove the frustration. If you find that you are particularly bothered by a person or situation, listen to those feelings. Grab your husband and ask him to help you sort it all out and come up with some ways of dealing with it in a healthy, good way. If you are sad, give yourself permission to grieve. If you are happy, enjoy the moment fully. Acknowledge your emotions, give them reasonable place, and learn from them. If your emotional struggles are overwhelming, then consider seeing a counselor. Your emotional health is important.
Feelings are much like waves, we can't stop them from coming but we can choose which one to surf. Jonatan Martensson
