Here's Lori:
My husband donates blood on a regular basis. I haven't, largely because I fight anemia, but I've been a good girl about taking iron and now my numbers are good enough that they like my blood too. :) So this last week I started giving blood as well.
Aside from doing something good for others (which is always a plus), it's one more thing that my husband and I can do together. We laugh and talk with folks as we go through the process and walk off with matching heart stickers (though my husband is a total show off - he's a good bleeder and whizzes through the process, while they're still trying to figure out where my veins are) <rolling eyes>
You might not be able to give blood, but there are any number of ways you can join your husband in being generous or kind to others. All you need to do is find something that you and your husband are both comfortable with and go for it. Help a single mom with her yard. Babysit kids so that your friends can have a date. Invite an older couple out for dinner. Help with a church project.
The human being who lives only for himself finally reaps nothing but unhappiness. Selfishness corrodes. Unselfishness ennobles, satisfies. Don't put off the joy derivable from doing helpful, kindly things for others. B.C. Forbes
